Dealing With Difficult Bosses
- Workplace
Video Transcription
You will come across a difficult boss at some point in your career. You may not be able to change the person, but you can change the way you go about handling them. A difficult boss is someone who lacks the skills necessary to lead an efficient work environment. This person may be ignorant or even abusive. It doesn’t matter, because you can handle them.
I remember years ago I was asked to work for a man who I was told was a great boss, but in reality he was the cruelest boss I have ever had. I would be afraid to go to work because of him. When I would go into work, I would dread it. I would wake up in the middle of the night just thinking about work. My life at home was miserable. I was a nervous wreck.
How did I deal with him? I eventually found a new job. But what if you can’t do that? There are some things you can do to deal with a bad boss. Try to talk to them about how you feel. This may seem like a risky choice, but you can alleviate a lot of the tension by talking to your boss about what you do and do not like. They’ll probably be more understanding of you than you think and it’s a good way to get things off your chest. If this doesn’t resolve the problem, you can always consider looking for a new job. It’s usually a lot easier to find a new job than to try to deal with an awful boss on a daily basis.
